Chile hosted in Santiago a High-Level Event with 80 women leaders from around the world

“Women in power and decision-making: Building a different world”

Under this slogan, the Government of Chile and UN Women gathered 80 women leaders from around the world for a global discussion to renew the commitment in order to accelerate the implementation of the Declaration and Platform for Action Beijing +20, which should unify ideas and enhance actions towards general recognition of the rights and empowerment of women, which was promptly adopted in the Platform in 1995.

The Government of Chile, headed by its President Dr. Michelle Bachelet, in coordination with UN Women, led by its Executive Director, Phumzile Mlambo-Nguka from South Africa, gathered 80 political, social and business leaders to this debate held on February 27 and 28, 2015.

Patricia Perez, Global Advisor of UN Women, President of the +Paz –AIDS Foundation and nominee 9 consecutive times to the Nobel Peace Prize, actively participated in the meeting.

Under the slogan: "We have waited long enough!" a strong Call to Action was drafted and signed by the participants, among which stand apart the Chilean President, the Director of UN Women and the Secretary General of UN, Ban Ki Moon, the Mayor of Paris, Mrs. Anne Hidalgo and Executive Secretary of CIM- OAS, Ambassador Carmen Moreno and Rebeca Grynspan, Executive Secretary of SEGIB. Patricia Pérez signed the Declaration and expressed in her speech that "women around the world can´t keep waiting, long ago we made the decision to actively participate in the spaces of decision making and this meeting is a clear sign of that determination".
