“From today, we must avoid gender-based violence so as to improve HIV prevention”.

Roundtable on HIV and No Violence Against Women

The regional forum on “Keys for the Development of Women’s Leadership in Latin America” was jointly organized by the More Peace Less AIDS Foundation and ICW Latina in Panama. With over 70 participants from 22 Latin American countries, issues were discussed such as HIV/AIDS and no violence against women. This was led by prominent individuals such as Arling Alonso, the representative for Nicaragua and member of the Commission for Health, Social Security, Environment and Natural Resources and Damaris Griñan from ICW Cuba.

The reflections that both speakers provided helped the discussion later. “We must make joint efforts for peace and for the well-being of humanity” insisted Mrs. Griñan from ICW Cuba.

She further added that it is “essential to political leadership and to the coordination between civil society and the political arena”.

At the end of the discussion, the unanimous agreement was that “starting today, gender-based violence should be avoided so as to improve HIV prevention” said Mrs. Griñan.
